Harry Potter’s Emma Watson says she got her ‘A– Kicked’ in Hollywood

The Little Women star recently shared a lot of experiences from her professional journey, as well as her personal life.

During Jay Shetty’s On Purpose Podcast, Emma Watson spoke about using painful memories to act out scenes. Those memories being, how she felt disappointed after coming to work, expecting to make lasting bonds.

Watson shared, “I was coming to those sets with an expectation that I think I had developed on Harry Potter, which was that we were, the people I worked with were going to be my family and that we were going to be lifelong friends.” She added, “I came to work looking for friendship.”

“That was a very painful experience for me outside of Harry Potter and in Hollywood. Like, bone-breakingly painful,” the 35-year-old actress stated.

“People don’t come to those environments looking for friendships,” Watson continued. “They’re looking for, ‘This is my chance. This is my role. This is what I want out of it. I’m focused. This is my job. This is my career. Like, let’s go,” she further explained.

“I think it’s so unusual to make a set of films for 12 years, and we were a community. Like we, we really were,” the Harry Potter alumna added. “And so I took that as an exploitation into my, into my other workplaces and I just got my I just got my a– kicked. I really did,” she admitted.

Additionally, Emma Watson recalled realizing that she wasn’t “thick-skinned” and “wasn’t built for those kinds of highly competitive environments” as she tried to hold back her tears. “It broke me. But in a way, I’m proud that it did,” she said. “I guess that means I have something left to break. I have a heart left to break.”

Meanwhile, Watson is currently on a hiatus, pursuing academics, and hasn’t revealed any plans to return to acting for the foreseeable future.
