Tiwa Savage has once again addressed the controversy surrounding her leaked sex tape, firmly rejecting claims that she released it herself to stay relevant.
The video, which went viral in 2021, was made public after the singer refused to bow to a blackmailer’s demands. Despite being the victim, Tiwa Savage recalled how she was harshly judged at the time, with many people accusing her of using the scandal to gain sympathy.
Speaking in a recent interview with U.S. radio station Hot 97, the Afrobeats star shared how deeply the incident affected her. “I was bashed for my sex video. A lot of people think I was just trying to get sympathy. Even people with platforms were quite horrible and blamed me,” she said.
She dismissed the idea that she intentionally leaked the clip, pointing out how absurd that claim is. “I don’t know how they couldn’t see me as the victim in this. They said I did it to be relevant. If I were doing that, I would’ve been intentional about it. I would have used better lighting, lingerie, and my facial expressions would have been on point.”
Known as the “Queen of Afrobeats,” Tiwa Savage has continued to thrive musically since the sex tape scandal, but admitted that the experience left lasting emotional scars.
The singer’s remarks highlight not only her resilience but also the double standards and culture of victim-blaming women often face in the public eye.
